Title: “Plant Breeding in the 21st Century: Finding ways to improve selection efficiency and understanding”

Arron Carter is a Professor and O.A. Vogel Endowed Chair of Wheat Breeding and Genetics at Washington State University.  He runs an applied breeding program aimed at releasing new winter wheat cultivars for the state of Washington.  The main goals of the breeding program are improved agronomic characteristics, improved abiotic and biotic stress tolerance, and excellent end-use quality attributes.  Dr. Carter’s program has been focused on finding more efficient and effective ways at making selections for these traits under annual climate variations.  His seminar will focus on technology that can be used to improve plant breeding selection and understanding of agronomic traits.
