“Breeding to support diverse midwestern grain rotations”

Lauren Brzozowski,

Agronomy 3140, 3:00 – 4:00 pm

Description: This talk will highlight recent progress in breeding winter rye and winter oat for Kentucky, including application of molecular and genomic tools to accelerate breeding progress. In this talk, she will also share her perspective of beginning new plant breeding programs as an early career researcher.

Dr. Lauren Brzozowski is an Assistant Professor of Molecular Plant Breeding & Genomics at University of Kentucky. Her research balances foundational science and applied cultivar development. Specifically, she works to understand the genetic basis of climate resilience traits, like resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, as well as traits contributing to human nutrition. She also breeds new regionally-adapted varieties of oats, rye and other small grains for Kentucky farmers.
