Description: In 2019, KWS created a new business unit focusing on vegetables. Starting a breeding programme from scratch is a unique opportunity. I will introduce the complexity of vegetables markets and products, the specificities of breeding vegetables crops in comparison to grain crops, and the challenges in shifting to modern, data driven and predictive breeding.

Delphine Fleury is the Head of Applied Genomics for vegetables at KWS, where she leads research in plant genetics and breeding, focusing on crop adaptation to environmental stress, disease resistance, and vegetable quality. With over 20 years of experience in the field, Delphine has held various academic and industry positions, including Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide, Australia. She has contributed to the understanding and improvement of drought and heat tolerance in wheat. Delphine holds a PhD in Plant Molecular Genetics from ENSAT in France and has published extensively in top scientific journals on sunflower, arabidopsis and wheat.
