Position
  • George F. Sprague Endowed Chair
  • Professor, Department of Agronomy
Bill’s current research interest is optimization of plant breeding for purposes of genetic improvement. He and his students collaborate with systems engineers to translate genetic improvement goals into mathematical objective functions resulting in optimal breeding outcomes. Bill’s teaching interest is to assure the next generation of biologists will be prepared to address complex problems with quantitative skills and his administrative interest is to develop faculty capable of transforming plant breeding from an art to an engineering discipline.
